Greetings from Down Under!!!!!!

February 21st, 2008

I send you warm greetings from Australia; I’m conducting the Australian premiere of Osvaldo Golijov’s opera “Ainadamar” at the Adelaide Festival of the Arts; we have a fantastic cast and crew and the performances will be phenomenal. It has been a very busy 2008 so far and I’m particularly looking forward to returning to the Cleveland Orchestra in March, both at Severance Hall and in Miami as part of their annual residence. The Nashville Symphony recently announced the 08-09 Season and invite all of you to check it out on their website www.nashvillesymphony.org.

December is here!

December 2nd, 2007

I find it very hard to believe that 2007 is coming to an end; this has been an incredibly rewarding year, both artistically and personally; among my most memorable memories this year, I have to mention my concerts with Renee Fleming, Sir James Galway and Midori, my Bruckner 3rd with the Edmonton Symphony, and my appointment as the new Music Director of the Nashville Symphony. It is a great privilege to be a conductor and I cherish every opportunity of making music with terrific orchestras. This month I am excited about conducting Messiah with the Pacific Symphony and reconnecting with this fabulous ensemble. On behalf of my family, I wish you all a fantastic Holiday Season! Feliz Navidad!!!

Fall Activities!

October 27th, 2007

Hello all!

I know it’s been a while since my last blog, but these last couple of months have been very busy and exciting; after the Nashville Symphony announcement I was immediately back to work with concerts with my new orchestra and of course in Eugene; I also had my debut with the Kansas City Symphony and truly enjoyed my week there; this past week I had the privilege of working with Andre Watts in the Brahms 2nd Concerto and next week the Eugene Symphony will host Joshua Bell in works by Bruch and Sarasate; next weekend I’m returning to Nashville to listen to the orchestra and for some planning meetings (all I can tell you is that the 08-09 Season will be outstanding!!!!!) And during the first week of November I’ll be visiting the Edmonton Symphony once again conducting Bruckner’s 3rd Symphony. These are very exciting times for me and my family and I’m especially honored to be working with some terrific orchestras and soloists and expanding my repertoire. I promise you won’t have to wait long until my next message, but thanks to all of you who are always dropping nice messages and inquiring about my career.

See you soon!

Please keep checking in because I will be posting a message very soon regarding my upcoming projects this Fall. In the meantime, I can tell you that I will conduct the Nashville Symphony on September 13, 14 & 15 in a wonderful program that includes both Suites from Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe and the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with Midori as soloist.

I hope you all had a fantastic Summer and thank you to all of you who have sent their best wishes on my new position in Nashville.

Hasta luego…

SUMMER IS HERE!!!

June 5th, 2007

Hello everyone!

It’s hard to believe that the 06-07 Season has finalized; I conducted the Nashville Symphony last weekend to close their season in their stunning new hall; it was great to work with this fabulous orchestra once again and reunite with pianist Terrence Wilson in the second performance of Michael Daugherty’s new Piano Concerto “Deus ex Machina” (which received ecstatic ovations each night!) I’m already looking forward to my next collaboration with the Nashville Symphony next season in a performance of Verdi’s Requiem. And now, it’s time to prepare for the Summer concerts; I will be traveling to Glasgow, Scotland in a couple of weeks for my UK debut; I will work with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra with pianist Stephen Hough as soloist; I have been a great fan of Mr. Hough for a long time and it’s a great honor to have the opportunity to work with him; we will do 3 entirely different programs back-to-back; I will then travel to Costa Rica for some time off and then back on the road to conduct at the Colorado Music Festival. As you can see, I have a lot of activities coming up so please make sure you visit my website often for the latest updates. Thank you again for your kind messages.

See you soon…

SCHEDULE UPDATES!

May 23rd, 2007

Hello everyone! I was in Eugene last week closing our 06-07 Season and it was quite a week; we had an incredible concert with Renee Fleming (singing her Oregon debut!) and it was a real treat to make music with her. I’m now packing my bags to travel to Nashville at the end of the month; I am really excited about returning to conduct the Nashville Symphony because I will finally get to conduct in the fabulous new concert hall. Plus, I will get to conduct a very eclectic repertoire with works by Sibelius, Daugherty, Strauss and Respighi. Soon after Nashville I will be flying to Scotland for my UK debut with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the phenomenal pianist Stephen Hough (what a great way to kick-off my Summer activities). I am starting to post my activities for this Summer and the 2007-2008 season so please return often for updates. I appreciate your support and kind messages and I’ll keep you posted on all my upcoming activities.

CARACAS BOUND!

April 19th, 2007

Hello friends!

I’ll be traveling this weekend to Caracas to work with the Simon Bolivar Symphony for the next 2 weeks; Venezuela is a very special country for me because I started my conducting career there with the Orquesta Sinfonica del Tachira, in San Cristobal. The Simon Bolivar is one of my favorite orchestras to work with because I have many friends in this wonderful ensemble and I’m looking forward to making great music with them. I will conduct Mahler’s 4th Symphony during my first week and the second week will be devoted to Shostakovich’s 7th Symphony, better known as the “Leningrad” Symphony. And of course, I’m really excited about eating a lot of “arepas” during my stay in Caracas.

Hasta luego!

April 2007

April 3rd, 2007

Hello again!

March was one of the busiest months in my career; and at the same time, it was one of the most musically fulfilling: Adams and Takemitsu in New Zealand, Stravinsky and Cherubini in Portugal and the exciting world premiere of Michael Daugherty’s Piano Concerto in Charlotte. It was a fantastic time to establish some new relationships with some fantastic orchestras and soloists; and the future has some exciting projects as well, such as the concert with Renee Fleming in Eugene and my return to the Nashville Symphony during the first week of June. My schedule for the 07-08 is almost finalized and I will be posting it very soon in the “Schedule” section of my website, so make sure you visit often for recent updates; in the meantime, you can go to the Eugene Symphony’s website (www.eugenesymphony.org) to check out next season’s concerts.

OFF TO LISBON!!!!

March 1st, 2007

Hi everyone!

It seems I’ll be having my European debut a little earlier than planned; I just received a last minute invitation to conduct the fabulous Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal with a terrific program that includes Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms and Cherubini’s Requiem in d minor; as many of you know, I love choral music and I couldn’t imagine better repertoire for this special occasion. I’ll tell you all about it in my next blog.
